The rector of the university in Argentina condemns persecution – in the service of the truth

Created by Hebe de Bonafini (1928-2022) with the aim of spreading knowledge as a tool for change and encouraging political commitment among young people, UNMA obtained the required autonomy and public funding in 2023, after a central vote of deputies and senators.

In recent times, the teachers and students have condemned the withdrawal of funds, the lack of knowledge of the elected authorities and the appointment of an auditor by the administration of Javier Maili.

The professor of the history of mothers, Demetriou Irmain, pointed out that this was an outrage and an interference with the university’s autonomy.

This is a de facto intervention by the national government using the figure of the organizing rector, despite the fact that UNMA members of the faculty and non-teaching staff have already been elected in a sovereign assembly. A supreme council was elected and Kamano was unanimously confirmed as rector. They want to ignore all this, he explained.

Since it became known about the intention to intervene in the university, many social organizations and unions in this and other countries have condemned this fact and several judicial appeals have been filed to stop the move.

UNMA has 2,300 students, 190 teachers and 90 non-teaching staff, who have decided to remain in a state of permanent alertness and mobilization.

The day before, during a support event at the same institution, motorized policemen passed through the street in a threatening manner, according to its managers and friends.

According to Irmain, despite everything that has happened, studies will continue at the Casa de las Madras in this capital.
